Helping to ensure that the Spirit of the WWII generation continues to inspire future generations of Americans, especially the youth of our nation
In 2010, a Concurrent Resolution was unanimously passed by the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives designating the second Sunday in August as "Spirit of '45 Day."  More...
"Keep the Spirit of '45 Alive" is a coalition of organizations and individuals who are helping to ensure that this new national day honoring their achievements will become an annual tradition in our country, with communities having events and activities - both celebratory and solemn - that help preserve the legacy of the men and women who were the ordinary heroes of the WWII generation, so that their legacy will continue to inspire future generations of Americans, especially the youth of our country.
Each year, members of this grassroots coalition are invited to attend an annual Spirit of '45 Day National Leaders Conference that is held in San Diego, CA in February where they share best practices and develop joint strategies for assuring that Spirit of '45 Day continues to gain traction throughout America.
In 2015, members of the Keep the Spirit of '45 Alive coalition are organizing events and activities to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the end of World War II, including signature projects that will honor the legacies of American Airpower, Ground Forces, Seaborne Services and the Home Front.
Highlights of the year will be a "Kiss In" in Times Square on Friday, August 14, that will kick off a weekend of special events, including flyovers by WWII vintage aircraft in communities across the country that are being organized by the EAA Warbird, the Commemorative Air Force and several air museums and private collectors, swing dances and concerts, rallies of Rosie the Riveters and Rosie lookalikes, and open houses at senior living communities.
The 70th Anniversary commemorative weekend will conclude on Sunday, August 16, with the longest, continuous wreath laying ceremony in history.  Read more about the Tribute to a Generation.
The Spirit of '45 70th Anniversary Commemoration continues with "America's longest Veterans Day parade in history" in the form of convoy of WWII vintage vehicles organized by members of the Military Vehicles Preservation Association, that will depart from Fort Belvoir, VA on Saturday, September 19, to drive 3,000 miles across America to arrive in San Diego's Balboa Park on Saturday, October 19, symbolizing the return of millions of G.I.'s to reunite with their families and communities in the fall of 1945.  Click here for the convoy itinerary.
